Tan Wei Ying
Weiying was exposed to both the English and Chinese performing arts at a young age, attending Speech and Drama lessons at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA) and the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan Arts and Cultural Troupe (SHHKACT) since the age of four. She gravitated towards Chinese theatre, participating in many of SHHKACT’s theatre performances. After graduating from SHHKACT, Weiying continued assuming performing as well as directing roles in its Youth Drama Troupe wing. Although Weiying’s involvement with theatre stems from personal interest, she believes her theatre trainings played a large part in cultivating her passion for it, allowing her to explore boundaries and use the performing arts as an outlet for creativity. Today, Weiying is a Chinese children’s theatre trainer, and she hopes to inculcate the joy and value of the arts amongst children, as her teachers previously did.
